FALL 2010 – FALLING (PUZZLE GAME)
School project – Fall term, first year of university

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
For the last assignment during the ‘introduction to game design’ course, we were to make two prototypes for two different game ideas. We then got into groups of about three people per group, presented our prototypes and finally selected one of the ideas from which each of the group’s members would make their own interpretation/game from the concept.

The group I was in ended up going with a puzzle game concept, which involves guiding small, black marbles to the goal using direction altering blocks. There are only a few rules that you must keep in mind; if the ball falls outside of the level, you’ll start over. If two marbles collide with each other, they’ll break, thus you’ll have to restart the level. Lastly, you must get all balls into the goal before the timer runs out.

It might sound simple, but the more levels you complete, the harder you’ll see that it gets. For my version, I chose to let the player alter the states of the blocks using the mouse. You can change the direction in which it will point the ball/marble by left-clicking and completely remove the block by right-clicking.

Overall, this is probably the most complete game I made during the course and I’m quite satisfied with the result. It contains 20 increasingly harder levels, calm music and a simple, stylish aesthetic.

SCREENSHOTS
Here are some screenshots from the game. Click on them to show them in their full size (circa 640×480).

Also, just two pointers for this game before you download it (if you do. Which you should.)

  • I am in no way reliable for any issues that running this game may cause. It has been tested on several systems and seems to work fine, but should it not run properly, then report to me either via the contact page, or via the comments field on this page.
  • To go back to the menu/exit the game, press the Escape button.

Creds go out to my classmate Robin Hjelte, whom originally came up with the concept I based this assignment’s game upon. Most of the visuals are also his.

That is all. Good luck with the game!
